This week I learned something new about the Easter holiday, something yet subtle and small, but with great depth within its meaning. I was informed that the delicious, salty snack of a pretzel is found to be a symbol of praying hands within the Christian culture, representing the Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Who would ever thought! I came across this myth while treating a patient during an exciting game of Easter Trivia. Now I may be a little late to all this news about the design of a pretzel being originated by a monk, but I found this to be quite interesting. Especially seeing how within the African American culture, Easter Sundays are presented with an elaborate spread of soul food, such as mac n cheese, corn bread, chicken, greens, potato salad, deviled eggs, yams, chitterlings, dressing, pound cakes, etc (YOU NAME IT!)
Not once have I ever recall a bowl or plate of pretzels in this buffet that was setup so nicely under grandma's picture of the last supper. So I figured, HEY, why not switch up the menu this year and add a few pretzels in the mix. For this year's Easter dessert I made chocolate covered pretzels with a hint of glorified sprinkles on top.
Ingredients Used
White chocolate chips Toll House 9oz
Sprinkles
Pretzels 16oz bag (You don't need this large of a bag, I just like pretzels, just depend on the size of your party)
Parchment paper or foil (for those who don't keep parchment in the house like me lol because I barely use it)
Directions
Align parchment paper or FOIL to baking sheet/pan.
Take microwavable bowl and melt 1/2 cup of chocolate chips for 30 secs - 1min, then stir till smooth.
Dip half of pretzel into melted chocolate, then place on lined baking sheet.
Be sure to use sprinkles immediately after dipping pretzels with desired amount.
Hopefully, you and your family enjoys this add-on to Sunday's supper or something fun to give to the kids prior to or following the Easter Egg Hunt.
Let us not forget the true meaning to the celebration of the Easter holiday going beyond the cute baskets, Sunday's best clothes, the warm & fuzzy bunny, and the best candy in the world, we gather to give thanks to God for saving us by grace through the sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ.
